We salute our colleagues at community health centers throughout the nation who on a daily basis treat patients in our communities with respect and understanding. Community health centers have been leading advocates for improving access to health care. They appreciate the diversity of backgrounds and needs in our communities. Opening and sharing notes with patients promotes
a culture of transparency and trust—which helps build strong partnerships. The very act of telling patients that they have the right to read their note is empowering. OpenNotes invites patients to ask more questions about their health. Sharing notes also facilitates the efforts of care partners who often help friends and family navigate the health care system. We are working to make OpenNotes an important asset in the efforts to reduce health care disparities and to promote patient dignity and engagement.
